“Free Community Compost Days”

Organizing popular “compost give-aways” within our local communities,
during environment days, earth days, or community clean up days is arguably
a great opportunity to promote both “recycling” and “composting” encouraging
Torontonians to keep tons of waste from filling landfills each year.
The popularity of composting continues to grow as residents and municipalities
work to reduce waste and utilize the fascinating process of turning
organic materials into a nutrient rich soil that is great for gardening, landscaping,
or just greening your lawn!
Aside from the environmental benefits compost days also provide an opportunity
for members of Council to roll-up their sleeves and assist hundreds
of seniors and homeowners to fill containers with “organic garden
gold” compost that many of them could not afford to buy for the hefty price
tag of $3 a small bag.
Taxpayers are sick and tired of being constantly taxed. This expense, as
I see it, is legitimate – essentially giving away free compost to those who
cannot afford to buy it!
I am however cognizant that given our reduced 40% office budget, I may
not be able to bring this precious recyclable materials to our local parks,
parkettes and known public places to the same extent as I have done during
the last 20+ years!
For the record, in my years of public service, I have never charged a cent
for mileage, food, travel, or any personal questionable expenses. I take pride
on my record for being fiscally responsible!
This spring, I invite residents of Ward-17 Davenport to attend my “Free Community
Compost Days”. Please check the dates and locations noted below!
